Fresh Life Students : From The Ruin

Dillon Deitz - MVMNT camp 2017

RISE UP

[I AM THE TEMPLE]

Haggai 1:1-13

Lord of Hosts = God of Heavenly armies.

Jesus laid a foundation but you've done nothing to build on it.

They didn't have a construction problem, they had a complacency problem.
Kept putting it off.

The devils greatest fear is you rising up to follow Jesus.

The time to rise up is now!

They were living more for their comfort than for their calling on their life.

The moment they considered, they realized how little they had.

This is my need, I honor You in this moment.

**God doesn't want to be first, He wants to be center!**

Is God invited into he middle of everything you do, everything you are?

Your calling is to please + glorify the One who made it!

There is nothing greater than worshipping God.

God asked them to : Go up. Bring wood. Rebuild.

Sometimes you have to cut things out in order to build up.

Jude 1:20-21

The storms of life are coming, so what kind of life are you building?

A comfortable house is still a crushed house when the storms come.

When you belong to Christ, you are the Temple!

I AM THE TEMPLE!

I'm going to work, bringing church with me, because I am the temple!

Haggai 1:12 OBEY!

Obedience brings the presence of the Lord.

When we rise up, God shows up!

Chasing Huckleberries : week 3

Levi Lusko - Fresh Life Church

Bears + Berries

Humans are not the only creatures that like huckleberries.

The moral : everyone likes huckleberries.

The animal most associated with berries is the bear.

Huckleberries are both integral to black + grizzly bears. 90% vegetarians.
Leaves, grass, roots + fruits.
90lbs of food per day.
Estimated 1/3 is berries.
How a bear approaches vs our approach.

As you are hunting for something - you are not he only one hunting.

Hardship
Hypocrisy
Hurry
Hunted

Be sober.

Peter wrote this to Christians who were suffering and he wanted to help them understand their hurt.

1 Peter 5:8-9

It's not just your pain, there is someone on the prowl as well.

You are surrounded by unseen spiritual battles.

Your safety + success is attached to ::
1. What you assume.
Your assumptions every day : I have an enemy and he is waiting to pounce.

Poised to pounce : message translation

The devil would have you to be either paranoid or oblivious to the devil.

Knowing it prepares you for it.
Braced for impact.
The world is hostel to the gospel.

His agenda is to steal, kill + destroy.
He's out to harm.
He wants to bring a sense of disbelief in God.
Foothold becomes a handhold becomes a chokehold.

2. What you see.
Keep your eyes scanning.
Watch.
Always on guard.
Paying attention.
You can't be sober or vigilant when you're drunk.
Growing sense of depression + despair has caused a 40% increase of alcoholics since 2000.
Drinking can be enjoyed, but cautiously.
The biggest reason to not abuse : when you're drunk you're no longer in the driver seat of your mind.
Ephesians 5:18

You'll do things you regret when you're under the influence of "the spirits" then you cannot be under God's influence.

You are never too far from the grace of God.

Your heart needs to be wet cement.

3. What you think.
Learn to think like a bear.
Get desperate : bears sleep 5-7 months of the year.
Wake up hungry.
In 5-7 months cram in a whole year of eating.
Final feeding frenzy.

**Intuitively know winter is coming.**

Romans 16:20

The devil has nothing to lose.

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Two lies the devil likes to tell you :
1. Just once more and then I'll be done.
2. I can stop any time I want.

4. Where you go
Bears go back to burn sites and the devil is the same way too.
Why wouldn't he mix it up? You don't switch bait when the fish keep biting.

Temptation. Why? To deceive you.
Trial. Why? To discourage you.

He knows your fire can be fruitful.

Because you have pain, God has allowed it to deepen you.
Expect blowback.

Your wound can become a weapon!

He will strike with fury.

5. What you bring.
Bears smell 200X better than humans.
What you bring every day is imperative to how you walk through life.
Truth + a team.
When Jesus was attacked by the devil?
What Jesus brought out when he was attacked - it is written! It is written!
Magnifies pleasures - minimizes consequences.
Hold God's truth up.
Matthew 26:41

When you're being squeezed by temptation, who's in your life?

6. What you say.
Pay very close attention to what you say.
We don't want to surprise the bear.
Talk to the bear.

There is a sound coming out of your mouth that can surprise yourself.

Philippians 2:10
Say the name of Jesus!!

Hurry

When The Rain Comes
2 Kings 3:9-20

Put this image in your head - Peter Pan is trying to put his shadow back on with soap. That's so silly, but we try to get rid of darkness in silly ways as well.

Freedom is here, fear has to leave, pain has to go, darkness retreat.
Heaven flood the earth.

Ruins can mean good things too.
Sometimes we choose to bring ruin so we can build something bigger!

A window opens up for a while and then the window closes.

Revelation 3:8
Behold, I have set before you an open door that no one can shut.

Every window of opportunity has an expiration date on it.

Division always weakens.

2 visions is the definition of division.

When something goes wrong in your life, let your immediate reaction be to God to God!!

Don't see what is, see what will be.

This picture tells us about people that have a part to play...

Takeaway Truths ::
1. Be the Jehoshaphat
If it weren't for Jehoshaphat the people wouldn't have heard God's word!
Be in the world to reach the world.
Love them, don't judge them.
2. Pour the Water
Vs 11 "he's just the water boy"
Have a servants heart.
*Strength comes from serving.*
**It's not about the messenger - it's about the message!!**
3. Set The Atmosphere
Worship is almost never convenient, but it's always essential!
Atmosphere elevates your awareness of His presence.
4. Dig - Deep - Ditches
You have to get your hands dirty!
Before God sends the rain, He is calling you to dig ditches to catch the water!

What ditches do you need to build?
Relational //
Dig ditches today for the rain you want to catch tomorrow.
You can't outlive the quality of your friends.
Your friends are the blueprints for the building you're building!
Show me your friends, I'll show you your future.
Who are you checking in with?
Abilities //
Develop yourself.
Hone your craft.
Always be reading something.
Always be learning + growing.
Work hard.
Don't despise hard work - double down!
Be healthy!
Identity //
You are a child of God!
You are loved!
Number //
Tithe!!
Generous spirit.
Where your money goes, your heart will follow.
Become a saver!

God wants us to work when it seems like it isn't working!

It's always weird to obey until it works.
He doesn't call you to understand, He calls you to obey.

How much water did they get?
As deep as the ditches they dug!

As low as you go, that's how much the water will flow!

NOTHING BUT LEAVES

Mark 11:12-25

Jesus Curses the Fig Tree

12 The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 He noticed a fig tree in full leaf a little way off, so he went over to see if he could find any figs. But there were only leaves because it was too early in the season for fruit.14 Then Jesus said to the tree, “May no one ever eat your fruit again!” And the disciples heard him say it.

Jesus Clears the Temple

15 When they arrived back in Jerusalem, Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people buying and selling animals for sacrifices. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves, 16 and he stopped everyone from using the Temple as a marketplace.[c] 17 He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”[d]
18 When the leading priests and teachers of religious law heard what Jesus had done, they began planning how to kill him. But they were afraid of him because the people were so amazed at his teaching.
19 That evening Jesus and the disciples left[e] the city.
20 The next morning as they passed by the fig tree he had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up. 21 Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree on the previous day and exclaimed, “Look, Rabbi! The fig tree you cursed has withered and died!”
22 Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. 23 I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.24 I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. 25 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.[f]

Verse 13 - nothing but leaves
Verse 14 - even God gets angry sometimes

Huckleberry in the wild.
You don't look for the berry, you look for the leaves to identify the bush.

Majesty + Meekness
Power + Weakness

Have a heart for every tribe, every tongue, every nation.

In this passage it's Monday, and on Friday Jesus will be dead.
This is what Jesus is choosing to do.
Jesus is chasing fruit.

One commentator said, "this is a difficult passage."

The fig tree was synonymous with the nation of Israel.
Jesus is bringing a parable to life.
Luke 13:6-9
In Leviticus you were told you would get fruit on the 4th year.
The fourth year belongs to the Lord.
You plant a fig tree knowing you won't see fruit until the fourth year.

This is where the parable comes to life : Israel by and large rejected Jesus.
They brought palm leaves of honor but later there was no fruit under the leaves.

*Living well matters more than look good.*

Jesus approached it because it promised fruit.
The leaves always follow the fruit.
The fruit comes and then the leaves cover the fruit with shade.

Promise without performance is useless.

Quit showing your best and hiding the rest.

Do the hard yards of walking with Jesus.

Galatians 5:22
Under His control!

The blessing doesn't come from following His control, but from living under His control.

We want Lifeguard Jesus, or genie in a bottle Jesus.
We need a KING!

We need the fruit of the Spirit under our leaves.

Scatter back to the world to live this out.

6 Fruits We Want To Grow :
1. Credibility
2. Vitality
3. Spiritual Intensity
4. Magnanimity
5. Energy
6. Authenticity

A. Do you do what you say you'll do?
It's not just something God wants in your life, it's what will cause people to want to be around you.
Proverbs 25:15
Under promise and over perform!

B. Life
Do you have words that speak life?
What effect do the words that you speak have on others?
Be the person to speak encouragement!
Your words matter!
Mans very first job was to speak a name over something and that was the name they were forever.

C. Faith
Is your faith robust?
Wrecking ball to it - a mountain moving.
A mountain being moved was an expression to say "that could never be done."
The expression would have to be changed now...take what's impossible to man and have faith, and with God find the impossible happen!

D. Magnanimous
Generous or forgiving, especially toward those who have wronged you.
Malcolm Forbes quote
Your faith will be held back when you don't forgive.
Lack of forgiveness relationally will drain your power spiritually.
Your love for God that you can't see.

E. Jesus went to eat before cleansing the temple.
Are you fueling well?
Are you taking careful steps to stay energized?
Are you fueling well with the bread of life?
Jesus was looking for the figs to prepare for the fight!

F. The opposite of playing a part.
The opposite of when you're hurting but acting like you have it all together.
No make faking fine!
The lack of the fruit isn't the issue, it's the lies about the fruit.
The cover up is worse than the crime.

He can't remove guilt from your life that you're not willing to admit.

Genesis 3:7 they covered up their nakedness with nothing but the leaves.

Lie of the enemy that you have to hide from Jesus, RUN to Jesus!!

Genesis 3:21

Galatians 3:13
Jesus was so angry at this tree because it was hanging onto a curse that he had come to overcome!

Chasing Huckleberries : week 1

Levi Lusko - Fresh Life Church

Where Fire Has Been

1 Peter 4:12-13
"Dear friends, don't be surprised by the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.
Instead, be very glad -- for these trials make you partners with Christ in His suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing His glory when it is revealed to all the world."

When's the last time you were "burned?"
Peter is writing to people who were just burned.

Don't come to the conclusion that God isn't on the job.

Being burned hurts.
It's devastating at times.
It hurts for a purpose.
It hurts on the way to something

What can happen when fie has been....

Fire helps huckleberries grow.
After fire comes new growth, new life.

*Where fire has been, it lets Light in.*

Huckleberries love sunlight.
After the plants around the huckleberries grow they shade the delicious plants and huckleberries quit growing.
So come a fire, and it helps start at ground zero and the huckleberry bushes once again start over.

We try to do good by taking away fire, but that's not best for the growth that needs to happen.

Quit trying to take the pain away.

God has not abandoned you.

Pain is part of God's plan to strengthen you, and build fruit in you.

Glory is just around the corner.

Suffering with a plan.

Rejoice in the pain.
James 1:2-3 "Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow."

We have to accept the good with the bad.

I will worship You, though You slay me.

When you look beyond you trials you become more aware of :
1. Look for your priorities to shift
2. Your sense of God's presence
3. Revelation
4. Opportunity
5. Passion

Sometimes it takes feeling alone to realize you're not alone.

Matthew 5:3-4 "God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for Him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

You'll read scripture differently when you're in a trial.

We can miss the redemptive thing God has for you in the trial.

There are certain seeds that can only be used after a fire.

There may be a seed in the pain that is only able to flourish when heat-activated.

Continue to choose to put your hope in Him.

Your worship is the most powerful when you're in pain.

Caution in all of this :
Don't wait for pain to come to try and dig roots down deep.

You mustn't be in a hurry.

Summer Reading Series : week 5

Guest Speaker : Louie Giglio
Author of Goliath Must Fall

David + Goliath is the greatest underdog story.

Giants that are in our valley's today.
Goliath must fall for our freedom sake!

Giant of comfort we won't get into.
Giant of addiction, anger, rejection or the big one we'll focus on : fear.

"Cousins" of fear : worry, panic, stress, depression, doom, darkness, anxiety.

Fear is faith in the enemy.
Everything that can go wrong is going to go wrong.

When fear is in your story, the soundtrack of your story might sound like : negative assurances.

Fear must fall!
It's stealing the glory of our great God!

If any giant in our life is going to fall, we've got to get the story right!

1. In this story you are NOT David.
Jesus came to take down every giant in our story!
Jesus is your giant slayer!!

2. Your giant is already dead.
Fear is a crime scene.
Your giant is dead, but it's still deadly!

How do we break free?
It has to do with what we see with our eyes + what you say with your mouth.

The antidote to fear isn't courage.
The antidote to fear is faith!
The soundtrack to faith is worship.

David wrote in Psalm 16:8-11 "I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety. For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave. You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever."

Life is a rollercoaster, but God is steady and sure.
When God is solidly in your view, your emotions stabilizes.
When God is in view, my tongue rejoices.

Worship + worry cannot be spoken at the same time.

Worship is a weapon that pierces the darkness.
Who gave the enemy power over the playlist?

There has to be a replacement playlist!
